"but scanner listening is a lost art in modern newsrooms. "   Kurt absolutely NAILS that one.  Heck, anymore, it is a lost (and dying) art almost anyplace.   I started in the 90's as a BNN operator in PG (BNN124) (but I'd been listening since I was a kid in the 70's).   I offered my 'services' here in Frederick a couple years back to the local paper but was told in no uncertain terms it was a waste of 'their' time.   

Sigh.   Don't get me started LOL.
