Agencieshave never liked the fact that folks, especially the media, could monitor theirtransmissions. Encryption is no longer cost prohibited. Agenciescan now keep their transmissions private from the media and the community as awhole. And who will be make this possible, we the taxpayingcitizen. Less liberty more government control and we pay for it. Encryption has nothing to do with Radio Reference; they are being used as theproverbial straw-man. Agency: "If not for Smartphone Police ScannerAps, we wouldn't have to encryption our radio transmission, you know OfficerSafety." Really? If Officer Safety was an issue, they wouldn'tallow their officers to have take home cruisers; you know the criminal elementmight target the officer and his family. I say, do away with take homecruisers for "Officer Safety." Being a law enforcement officertakes on a reasonable amount of risk, get over it! Encryption of the normal dispatch transmissions is a dreamcome true for these agencies, complete control over what information isreleased to the community. Someday our elected officials will wake up andsee the true reason why all of these agency want encryption.

It's quite obvious that this whole thing really doesn't have ANYTHING to do
with "safety" or eavesdropping. It's mighty odd that they are not
encrypting the ambulance to hospital "H" channels, the channels that carry
the most medical information. Sure they don't give identities, but they
give everything else.

Yet, big-time departments such as NYC, L.A., Boston and Chicago don't seem
to have a problem keeping most of their transmissions in the clear.
Awrgggg!!!
