[Scan-DC] CSX signal outage at Slaters Lane this morning

When I got to the Braddock Road Metro station at about 8:15 a.m. this morning, I saw that the signals for northbound traffic on all three tracks headed into the Slaters Lane control point (CP Slaters Lane) were dark. CP Slaters Lane is at milepost 106.5.

I got on a northbound Yellow Line train. When we crossed the Potomac River, I could see the southbound signal for the track to the west at the location known as "RO." This is the place on the railroad just south of the Potomac River. It was directly behind the old 14th Street Marriott. This signal was lit, red over red. There are two tracks north of RO crossing the river, and there are three tracks south of RO for the next several miles.

I wasn't listening to see what was the cause of this. Railroad signals should have backup batteries, but with all the newfangled computer gizmos running signaling systems these days, I guess anything could have made them conk out.
