It's amazing what passes as "facts" when there is not one shred of evidence based, scientific research to support those "facts"! It seems that the government entities can go on "assumptions" and we, the subjects, accept that. What happened to the idea of transparency in government?
'jus sayin'

Subject: [Scan-DC] D.C. FEMS P25 (update)
One of our insider friends says he hears the roll-out tomorrow of the fire/EMS P25 radios in D.C. may not happen as planned. Maybe next week or the following?
He also noted that once the P25 radios hit the street, they may eventually be re-programmed with more encrypted talkgroups once the mutual aid partners have updated their radios with encryption.
Does that mean we’re going to find more area fire/EMS channels encrypted soon?
Once the switch is made to P25, 0-1 and 0-2 will likely simulcast to the older P16 system for a few weeks.
I assume the new radios will also have the old talkgroups, so maybe they could distribute them and remain on the old system.
Side note: Try reading the Navy Yard after-action report:
http://mpdc.dc.gov/node/863542
Search for “encrypt” and see the comments regarding encryption. Here’s one...
“With the prevalence of applications that allow members of the public, press, and potentially even suspects to monitor radio transmissions, the use of the encrypted channels ensured that sensitive information, such as police movements and tactics in the building, was not widely disseminated. The safety and security benefits of encrypted channels are clear. This was highlighted by the media’s active monitoring of other agencies’ unencrypted emergency channels during the shooting and their subsequent premature and inaccurate reporting.”
Refresh my memory, what radio transmissions contributed to premature and inaccurate reporting?
The report is full of vague statements and often lacks specific examples.
Alan
