Three-quarters of a mile. As long as you have US Route 1 on your left and the CSX mainline on your right, you'll end up there. The viewing site is next to a bunch of soccer and lacrosse fields. I think the lots will be filled. It's possible to park at the north end of Crystal City and walk, but you might have to feed the meters, even on Sunday.

This map says you want to stick to Crystal Drive. If you have a bicycle, you can bring it on the Metro and ride it to the park. There is a Subway sandwich shop in the Crystal City underground shopping center.

I usually head for the highest point at the park, which is also the farthest north. You can see trains as they enter Virginia, and it has the vantage for planes. Amtrak will be the same old train over and over again, but the freights provide variety. We might even get to see the American Airlines Astrojet.

It might be raining tomorrow, and if it's too lousy for me to be out on a bike, I'll stay home. People are wondering about a starting time. Umm, whatever, maybe? Even if no members of Scan-DC show up, it's just about unimaginable that there would be no planespotters there, especially if planes are approaching from the north.

Due to the viewing angle, this location gives observers a better view of the livery of landing aircraft than they would get at Gavelly Point. You do miss that "up close and personal" aspect that Gravelly Point has.

http://www.wtop.com/?nid=4 says "Cloudy with showers, mainly later." I guess today would have been great, but people are probably busy today.

I might join you, but do not have a car, would have to get off at the Crystal city metro or Pentagon city stop, how far of a walk from there?
