[Scan-DC] memory cards and various cells at the Walgreens

A friend of mine (who just bought that open-box Home Patrol so graciously advertised on Scan-DC last month) bought an 8 GB card at Staples for $10 on Black Friday, and that works fine in his HP. So I suspect that the HP supports all high-capacity cards, which would cover up to 32 GB, but I can't swear to anything over 8 GB.
The reason to get a big card for the HP is that you can store more audio recordings. However, I have a 4 GB card, and I can already record several days' worth of Arlington County activity. Too much to go back and listen to as a matter of fact.
FYI, the HP records in standard .mp3 format, so you can copy the audio recordings directly off the card and play them in any computer or audio player. That's much nicer than the ICOM IC-R20 I had, which used a proprietary audio format that could only be played back on the scanner. You could back the files up to your computer, but you couldn't actually listen to them on anything except the scanner. Grrrrr.

What's the biggest card a Home Patrol can recognize?
I have a couple of old Hewlett Packard desktop computers that have built-in drives that can read from and write to memory cards. I can't recall how many different types of cards the drives can handle, but it's a lot. My work computer does not have this ability, but I found some devices at a thrift store that plug into a USB port and permit read/write with memory cards. They're the earlier version of this:

The thrift store also had one of these. I didn't buy it, and I wish I had (assuming it worked). It takes a separate power supply, which is not hard to find.

I also discovered that you can take the microSD card out of the Home Patrol and do all the updating (even firmware updates) by plugging the chip directly into your PC,...
