Hi Larry,
I'll save you a little effort on a some of this.
My company runs a website www.fccinfo.com that can be used for searching
some of the publicly available FCC databases. Specifically, anything
related to broadcasting as well as all the FCC Registered towers. We
download and process the FCC data daily for AM, FM, & TV and weekly for
towers and microwave paths.
We also have free Google Earth tool that uses the same databases to display
all current AM, FM, and TV records, all the FCC Towers, as well as the
broadcast related microwave paths. A link to this Google Earth tool, more
information, and some sample pictures are here:
www.fccinfo.com/fccinfo_google_earth.php
Save this to "My Places" and it will be ready to go each time you open
Google Earth, always linked to the most current FCC data.
3D buildings and microwave paths on tall buildings like Chicago, NYC, SFO,
LA, etc. are really cool since the microwave path end points are plotted at
the correct height. Google Earth is an amazing tool and I share your
interest in mapping databases. The beta version of this for Google Earth on
the iPad/Android is almost done!
Suggestions are welcome, but before somebody asks... yes, we download the
public safety, land mobile, and other 2-way databases for our internal use
but have not incorporated them into FCCInfo or Google Earth. Maybe someday.
Enjoy!
Mike

Subject: [Scan-DC] KML Files for DC Antennas and Licensees
For those of you with Google Earth, I have produced a couple of KML files
that show locations of antennas and licensees in DC from two of the FCC's
publicly available databases. If you don't have GE, it's a free download
from Google.
For details of the antenna or licensee, click on the icon in Google Earth.
If you have comments for improving the layout or data, please let me know.
Just keep in mind that I work with the data the FCC releases and the
limitations of the KML schema. MD and VA are up next. The coordinates are
not always correct, but they are often close.
Our government releases publicly a ton of data with latitude and longitude
in it, so creating KML out of it has become something of a hobby.
