[Scan-DC] Security Cameras

The only trouble is that visual surveillance such as this doesn't prevent these events... not that it's meant to, but I still wonder how much of a deterrent it is.  And although it could help to identify the "suspects", as we have to call the bludgers because of their "rights", I honestly don't have a lot of faith in my local serveprotects to apprehend these types, let alone prosecute and punish them (and / or get my property back).  There was an example here recently in Montcamera County, of all places - I forget exactly where... but the homeowner got perfect video of the bludgers getting into one of his vehicles, finding the keys to the other one (duuh), and driving off with it.  The end.  I'm not sure I wanna watch!

In fact - reading this over, I'm reminded of an incident back in November... I have some stuff in a Public Storage near here.  Gated, cameras everywhere (lighting may be a different story; they're so cheap about electricity, and I'm not sure whether good lighting is a hindrance / deterrent anyway or whether it just helps the bludgers to see what they're doing.)  At any rate, back in November, several units, 6 I think, including mine, were broken into (locks cut) and some items taken... and yet not only is the whole thing a big mystery; but Montcamera County's Finest basically didn't care and did mudnya about it.  By mystery I mean that no one seems to have the faintest idea of how these people even got in or out, or how they managed to move several bulky items (air compressors, chop saws) out of the place.  The Finest apparently have the video, but they didn't even try to lift prints from the doors of any of the units.  Apparently what they do is
 write reports.  Oh well.

Note, I'm not trying to argue or disssuade anyone from beefing up any sort of security or surveillance - just sort of chipping in with my skepticism and cynicism!  :)

Regards,

Doug
