BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is scheduled to officially welcome a 65-foot Small Harbor Tug and crew during a ceremony here Wednesday.
The Coast Guard Cutter Chock and its eight-person crew are changing their homeport from Portsmouth, Va., to Baltimore.
"The relocation of the cutter Chock to Sector Baltimore will greatly enhance the Coast Guard's multi-mission response capabilities including significantly improved ice-breaking capacity for the upper Chesapeake Bay and Port of Baltimore,” said Capt. Mark O’Malley, the commander of Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. ”It's truly a privilege to have the cutter as part of Sector Baltimore, a cutter with such a long history of superior service to the mariners of the Chesapeake Bay."
Media interested in attending the ceremony must contact Coast Guard Public Affairs Detachment Baltimore personnel at 757-309-3570 no later than 4 p.m., Tuesday. Media should plan to arrive at the Coast Guard Yard no later than 9:30 a.m., Wednesday.
