The Germantown earthquake last summer made loud noises, most people thought
a vehicle had hit their building. Now hearing of significant damage to the
National Cathedral towers, and a building collapse on Oxon Hill Rd. in
Prince Georges.

One of WTOP's listeners called in from Arlington to say had heard a flyover
at Arlington Cemetery and thought, initially, that it was the cause of the
noise. In a while, he understood that this was an earthquake. My mom called
from Alexandria, some four miles south of the Pentagon and National Airport,
to say that she had heard a loud, low plane too. She thought that it was
going down in the trees and would not make it to the airport.
What flew over Arlington and Alexandria? Or were people just thinking that
they had heard a low-flying plane.
