[Scan-DC] Dominion Virginia Power

I just listened to my recording, which stretched from about 6 pm last night
until about 6 pm tonight. The vast majority of it was a weak signal that was
some type of school maintenance operation, clearly not related to VEPCO and
apparently quite far away. Over the 24 hour period, there were only 2 or 3
local transmissions (consistent with coming from VEPCO's transmitter right
over here in Alexandria) of the sort "Scott, give me a call at the office"
and that type of thing. This is consistent with what you say -- VEPCO must
have moved most of its operations to MDT, Nextel, or some other form of
communications, rather than using this frequency. I guess my catch of the
"642R30" report after the storm the other night must have been relatively
unusual.

That 153.485 frequency (which is also licensed to VEPCO under KLC836 at the
Seminary Rd site) has a very strong pager signal on it that IDs (at about a
hundred words per minute Morse code) as KKW648. That comes back to VEPCO,
but not at that site. The closest site licensed to that callsign is in
Richmond. It's amazing how inaccurate the FCC database is. It seems like
it's incomplete or just plain wrong more often than not. No doubt the
licensees are to blame for providing bad information.

Andy
