[Scan-DC] Railfanning the Braddock Road Metro station

Doug:

WMATA PD still simulcasts on VHF although it sounds just as bad
as on the TRS, in and out of the rail system. Every so often I
listen to WMATA at work for kicks, since I am at the bottom of
both hills from NIH-Medical Center and Grosvenor stations. I was
not aware that they had migrated to the TRS for rail ops yet.
Interesting.

When I worked downtown, I always had a radio on the belt with a
"speaker mic" near my shoulder. (under the jacket in the winter)
and never got hassled. (of course I would turn it WAY down if I
saw a transit officer in the car) but no one seemed to care in
the platform areas. Red & Blue lines, PD, DCFD and MPDC running.

Of course, that was 20+ years ago and as a Red Cross First Aid
instructor and AHA CPR Instructor-Trainer, I had trained the
first 10 or so groups of rail operators and station attendants,
as well as their future instructors, so 90% of them knew me. If
I had only trained transit PD I would have had it made!

I spent many hours on the end of the platform above Brentwood
Yard (& Ivy City) watching and listening to the trains below, and
watched the circus trains unload while they still used the old
sidings next to Brentwood. If anyone asked what I was doing
there, I told them and sometimes train supervisors or PD would
stand and watch & listen with me! Back then if you did that, you
were just considered "nuts" and not a terrorist threat!

Excellent... I'll have to listen up and see if the Metro PD are
still on VHF... I was surprised to discover recently that there's
still activity on their 160.26 frequency - dunno for sure whether
ops are still on there, but Red Line maintenance is for sure.

One question - the area on the Braddock Road station that you
mention, that's actually the platform, right?  In other words,
inside the "paid-fare" area?

Thank you for riding Metro, have a nice day, and don't even think
about lingering!

(Bling-boing!)  Doors closing on the left.
