You didn't say, but since you've been listening to the tone for 40 years,
I'll presume you are listening to 154.16 and not the TRS. The industry
standard is to not transmit PL or DPL during the transmission of alert
tones. I'm no longer where I can listen to Montgomery so I don't know if
they drop the 156.7 CTCSS or not. If they do, then program your radio with
the 156.7 and enable it. You likely will have to go into the 600's extended
settings and adjust the "CTCSS/DCS/NAC" settings. Start by shortening the
"Fade Timeout" setting. Be aware that if you have CTCSS decode tones enabled
on other channels, there may be negative consequences by shortening the Fade
Timeout such as the radio stops decoding when weak signals fade.
I see that you are a ham so you shouldn't have any problem messing around
with the Extended Settings.
