The wreck in front of Merlin's house was the night before the snow - he probably meant tires skidding.  Good point about the ABS... and I think somebody else mentioned that an air bag deployment can blow out a windshield... but yeah, from what I've seen it's a pretty big area as opposed to appearing as if an object struck it.
