Thanks. I haven't really done much since FFC Coutny and the other jurusdictions went to trunking, but I do miss listening. I might just have to buy myself my Christmas present a little early this year.
Thanks for the insight.

he only difference in the two we've been discussing is that the PRO-106 is
andheld and the -197 is base/mobile. They use the same circuitry. As you're
robably aware, most (if not all) of the jurisdictions around here are now using
00 MHz trunking systems, and several of those are digital - these 2 radios will
ecode and receive those systems automatically (as will other radios built by
niden). Some areas are simulcasting on the older systems, especially the fire
ervices, but by and large the police have gone over to 800 exclusively.
I have both Uniden and Radio Shack Radios and am happy with both... the reason
or the mix is strictly price... best price that I know of on either of the RS
adios since they came out is $299 and that was two years ago at Xmas 2008... if
his Black Friday thing is really correct, they haven't been that low since then
ntil now. They started out at $499 and have dropped to $399. The Uniden
adios seem to be around $500 and might be around for $475. Of course, the RS
nes are sold through their retail stores (as well as online), where there's not
uch retail activity that I know of on the Unidens.
I don't want to sound like a Radio Shack commercial, but what it comes down to
s that there's a significant tariff when going to 800, and the RS radios can be
ad for less. Strangely enough, Radio Shack also sells the GRE radios online,
nd they are the same units!
Hope this helps - or at least hasn't served to thoroughly confuse! :)
Regards,
Doug

I've been out of scanning for awhile and have been thinking about getting back
nto it. I live in FFX County, which of these would be the best to invest in?
Thanks

asy to program as well.
