Hey Doug,

I live in Germantown. I did the opposite. I was awake, I turned the radio on the police side and turned on the tv (after I came back inside). Had been in earthquake before so knew right away what it was and got out of the house to check for damage and see if there were or were gonna be any injuries. The 5d (germantown) cops were all over the B channel talking about it right away. Then very quickly the supervisor came on to say it was a weather related event. Then for the next hour they automatically cleared any building alarms saying they were due to the weather related event. 

I did get a CAD message from the ops chief with the info about 30 min after it happened and the news covered it pretty quickly.

Made for interesting listening. I actually felt lucky I was awake and felt it. Pretty incredible stuff.

I forgot to add... I chatted with Alan Henney on Facebook between 1130 and noon earlier today, he is in Rehoboth Beach and was not aware of it - apparently it wasn't felt that far away (~150 miles).

Also, as soon as I came to my senses after the house started shaking, I turned on the scanner (to MC Fire dispatch) and the radio to WBJC-FM in Baltimore... no unusual activity on the fire side, and just classical music on WBJC.  But at 5:25 or so, when the selection he was playing had finished, the announcer on BJC said that we had had an earthquake... I went into the other room to email him (he's on facebook also) and another friend of mine in Germantown was online... she had heard chatter about it on the police side.
