Does anyone have any information about a police incident that occurred in the White Oak area of Silver Spring yesterday? It apparently began around 11:30 a.m. - shortly after that I heard activity on the "TAC A" talkgroup. A "team" of some sort (I don't remember the acronym) was called out to the Stewart Lane area (near US 29 and New Hampshire Avenue) and the whole thing went on for at least three hours... a friend saw about 30 police units going that way on Route 29; they included many unmarked vehicles, a command post unit, a couple of Hummers or Humvees, and at least one armored unit, as well as marked cruisers, vans, and SUVs. Apparently there were two perimeters set up and there must have been 75 people involved in this thing. I did hear reference to a shooting, but I didn't hear anything on the fire side about this so evidently no one was injured. Eventually there were two or three arrests made, and I did hear talk about a "victim" who was apparently uninjured and was going to do a "showup".
But with all that detail (and all that activity!), I never did hear what started it, and none of the local media outlets seem to have a word about it. (That story may have been overshadowed by the explosion of a car in an underground parking garage in Hyattsville, which incidentally turned out to be caused by the accidental explosion of a propane tank in the trunk of a car owned by an HVAC worker).
Thx-
Doug
