The XT has Close Call Do Not Disturb, a band scope, and a Close Call
bar graph feature that displays the highest strength signal it is
receiving in each band that you have activated. CCDND was the single
feature for me that convinced me to upgrade. They have since added
this feature to the 396T.
The 396XT supports GPS location-based scanning.
I am using my 396XT for my Arlington County Police feed on RR. You can
sort of judge the audio quality by listening to that, although the
audio feed compression will make it sound worse than it really is.
The RR 396XT Wiki page shows the differences between the 2 models.
