The December snowfall record for National Airport was 12" (1932). The
all-time record for National is 28" (1922), the second is 20.5" in 1899.
The next 4 big storms were relatively recent: 18.7" (1979), 17.1" (1996),
16.7" (2003) and 16. 6" (1983). At least according to the Washington Post
this morning.

I **believe** that it's already a record for December snowfall.  IIRC, the
previous December record was something like 11 inches, and we're supposedly
to already be over a foot.
