Anthony and everyone else – FYI – for those who monitor using 800mhz scanners for emergency services monitoring …

If you hear that you can no longer copy Loudoun Law Enforcement on 800mhz scanners – that is CORRECT!

I have been inundated with “it doesn’t scan anymore” “No one is talking” and so on…

The Law Enforcement groups in Loudoun – Sheriff and Town Police agencies made the switch 2 weeks ago to a new radio system that will be split trunking digital and NO SCANNERS are made that can pick them up!

This is the result of an FCC “P25 program” implementation and apparently most were not aware you will no longer hear anything!
This will be happening to Loudoun Fire Recue in Loudoun on Dec 15 as well.

You can find info by typing “P25 compliance” in Google or start here for a Virginia rundown:

I attached a word doc of the site for anyone that wants it.

Prince Georges County Arlington County have also changed – Fairfax is in the process –
NOTE: By next December ALL COG region jurisdictions will be on the digital split-trunking frequencies and will also go encrypted as well!

A LOT of people spent $5-600 and more on radios this past year and are REALLY upset the will no longer be of use. Some people bought 2 radios – home and vehicle!  NO ONE publicized the information and people have been buying them for their own use, as presents for others, and just to listen to the excitement. NO MORE! Let everyone know this has happened before they waste money and can’t return the units!

Over 1550 Live Audio Feeds Now Available
When we announced the acquisition of ScanAmerica.us back in May, we set a goal to grow from 500 live audio feeds to 1000 feeds by the end of 2009. Due to the community's tremendous response to the new live audio features, we have far exceeded our goal - we are now hosting 1550+ Live Audio feeds as of mid-December. This is a huge accomplishment and we thank all the feed providers for their support!

Don't forget that all feed providers receive a premium subscription to RadioReference. If you are interested in providing a feed for your area, see our article titled: Becoming a feed provider.

Head on over to our Live Audio page to listen to the feeds now.
RadioShack iScan Now Available
A first for the industry, a scanner designed to store and utilize the entire RadioReference.com Database! RadioShack in partnership with GRE released the new "iScan" portable scanner which contains the complete RadioReference Database bundled on an SD memory card. Instead of programming frequencies and trunked system information, users can select items such as where they live and what they want to monitor and the scanner takes care of the rest. In addition to this ease of use, the iScan radio comes bundled with software that can update the latest version of data provided by RadioReference.com. This radio is perfect for travelers and people who are new to the hobby.

The scanner sells for $229.95 at your local Radio Shack or at Scanner Master.
