Coincidentally, Following the posts last week about the Shenandoah
National Park frequencies, I went to Skyland this weekend and tried to
follow up on the questions about National Park frequencies.
Nothing heard on the 166.3000, 164.5750, 166.9000 frequencies I have for
Shenandoah. Checked 411.8500 Ops frequency. Zippo, but as it was a
weekend and holiday, they may not have needed to use it. I scanned across
450-470 and 406-420 with no success. Presume they went to digital 800
trunked. Somebody else have more information?
In the meantime I scanned at Skyland and found the checkin desk/ops are on
a 'new' frequency: 464.2500, simplex, with no CTCSS noted. They could be
using hexadecimal, etc. but my old Win Radio doesn't do hex. They used to
have a base station at the Reservations' Desk on 151.8500 but now are
using Motorola XPR6550 handhelds. The desk radio had a humorous label:
"Stolen from Front Desk. Return or Die". Communications appear to only
be local around Skyland: Need more towels, heater isn't working, etc.,
just as around any hotel.
I used to be able to see where rooms were available by listening to
166.9000 or to 151.8500 as I drove up there. Couldn't do it this time.
Got another hit at 151.9400, simplex, around Skyland which appears to be
used by the maintenance crews. Last night it was a couple guys discussing
the deer they shot, hunting spots and other subjects. This morning there
was a little work talk.
Any new information on what they are using would be helpful.
