How about 'The aircraft stuck the ground, causing it to crash.'

I haven't read the whole thing yet, hopefully they didn't say "burst into flames".  On the news, nothing ever catches fire, it always "bursts into flames".  (<WUFF!>)  I keep meaning to submit that one to Lake Superior State University.
