The usual old freqs should be used...whether F-16s from Andrews
(callsigns BRAVE 01 and 02), F-16s from the SD-ANG at the Langley
Detachment (LOBO 41 and 42), or F-16s from the NJ-ANG at Atlantic City
(COSMIC 41 and 42), the primary frequency with NORAD (callsign HUNTRESS)
should be on 139.7. Alternates will be 228.9 and 260.9 should they
decide to use UHF radios instead. The Coast Guard HH-65s (callsigns
BLACKJACK 1 and 2) are usually also on 139.7 - even if the fighters
should use UHF although they have the capability for UHF. The Civil Air
Patrol guys will not talk much at all other than to Potomac TRACON on
the VHF Andrews/National batch or the Dulles batch of freqs depending on
location. Those Potomac TRACON freqs will also be used for the fighters
to enter/exit the exercise area. If BRAVEs have the duty, first
indication will be with Andrews departure on 348.725 as they take off.
If it's COSMICs from Atlantic City, you'll first hear them with
Washington Center Atlantic City sector 281.45 or Casino sector 285.4. If
it's the LOBOs, you should hear them with Washington Center's Calvert
sector 281.4 as they come into the area. Now...if all of that is too
much trouble, just stick the first three freqs I mentioned in the
scanner and you'll hear 99% of the activity.
