Unless he was talking about PG county's upcoming trunk system (which will be, at least so far, unmonitorable), that's utter nonsense. Most of the newer digital trunktrackers - including the 996XT - can trunk in the 700 mhz band.
And I suspect it will be awhile before a lot of communities move into that band (although I understand Baltimore county is actively working on it - it's going to be 2 or 3 years before the system is actually up). The state is pretty cash strapped right now, as are many communities, unless we get some help from the Feds...73 Mike
