[Scan-DC] Weather -- Blame it on me

12 or so years ago, I had wondered the same thing. Could you downconvert 6
MHz of the radio spectrum and play it into a VCR, then do the opposite in
playback mode later on, and re-tune it? After all, isn't a VCR just
recording the RF from a 6 MHz wide TV channel?

At a radio conference back then, I had an opportunity to talk to an MFJ
engineer out in the hall, and I asked him this question, because it seems
like it would have been a killer product. He looked at me like I was from
another planet.

In the end, I decided maybe that it wouldn't work. Maybe a VCR actually does
some detection first, then records the detected signal. When you play a
tape, I supposed that maybe it took the detected signal and re-modulated it
back onto RF.

But the article you talk about would seem to indicate that it would work. If
you ever find the article, please post a link!

Andy
