[Scan-DC] Arlington fire internet feed?

While I've used streaming audio, I've never been the audio source for one.
Whichever one is easiest and most reliable for me to participate in is best.
I'll take a look and see what's needed.

Does anyone know in general what is needed to host a streaming audio server
yourself? I have a web host that offers buckets of features for my site, but
hosting streaming audio is not one of them. I presume it's because if a lot
of their customers did this the bandwidth requirement would be too great. At
home, my ISP only provides dynamic IP addresses, so running a streaming
audio server on my own machine is probably not possible. Does anyone know
more about this?

By the way, if you only want to stream audio to yourself, there's a great
(and free!) solution. Install Skype, and set it to auto-answer mode. Hook
your scanner audio into the sound card input and set Skype to use that as
the audio source. Then when you call in from another machine running Skype,
your scanner-connected machine will auto-answer, and you can listen to your
scanner in real time. I did this for a long time (until my last machine bit
the dust), and it worked great. I listened to Arlington PD from my hotel
room in Switzerland. That was cool.

I stumbled on one last night called livefirefeeds.com (different site than
the one John mentions), seems to be mostly MD (and Delaware)... I'll start
looking into this, esp if Andy can provide the signal!

Also, what about shoutcast - I'll check into that also, have never really
taken the time to understand it.

Thanks to all - maybe we'll "get our ears back" for Arlington!
