Yes, I have noticed DNR much louder/clearer now...I believe they have put up
a tower/equipment somewhere on the back side of Poolesville, Md, possibly
near the C&O Canal, or across the river on an existing tower in Va
(Leesburg?).

The Central area covers Montgomery County up to the Poolesville area (public
hunting), however, DNR out of Frederick comes down to Dickerson, Md to about
the power plant. Dickerson is also in Montgomery County, but very close to
the Frederick Co line.

The public hunting grounds behind Poolesville were previously out of range
of both radio and cell phone. Sometime back in December, I started hearing
the portables loud and clear while they were out walking trails.

Due to the gap in the mountains, and from your elevation, you could probably
hear them well in Berkley Springs.

I have Md DNR using DPL's 631 and 731 on different frequencies, and pl's of
103.5, 114.8, 118.8 on an entirely different set of freq's (all in the
151.xxxx - 159.xxxx range)

I also heard the Nat Park Rangers down by the river near the hunting grounds
the other night (looking for poachers) and they came in like gang busters on
170.3650 (170.3625). So I am wondering about the possibility of a joint use
tower.

Md DNR and the old Natural Resources Police have been using the tower at
Gambril Park (Frederick) for years...but it may have gotten an upgrade, and
there seems to be lots of simulcasting between the frequencies as well.

Paul
