[Scan-DC] Reagan or BWI?

Just an FYI since I've been quietly watching this thread...

Aviation is one of my favorite bands. I've always appreciated the
frequencies by airport, which is how I've always stored them since we've
been able to "label" scanner frequencies (which predates the "Potomac"
frequencies). Potomac Approach/Potomac Departure can mean any of the big
three, but the majority of my aviation listening is based on which airport I
am near, as in the old days... National (or Washington) Approach/National
(or Washington) Departure, etc, etc, etc.

Just my two cents,
Dewey

The controllers for Potomac Tracon are all at its facility in Vint Hill,
Virginia, near Warrenton. The transmitters are remoted, in this case at
BWI. In the list I prepared and sent last weekend, I listed frequencies
according to the airport they serve and these came up as Reagan because they
serve Reagan. They serve BWI, too, but I don't have BWI on the list yet.
(I've had requests to add it and may have time this weekend to do so.)

I think that by listing the freqs by airport, rather than by what the FAA
calls a "facility" (in this case Potomac Tracon), I've created confusion on
the list here. Those of us who monitor tend to think of what "facility" or
"service" we're monitoring, rather than follow the FAA's practice of listing
frequencies according to the airport they serve (at least on the IFR
publications). Maybe I should revise the listing in its next iteration, or
provide both.
