Another good point - I didn't know that the GREs came with a programming cable, but when you go digital, the radio is just the beginning... you'll probably ante up another $60 or $70 for "accessories" that you'll need, but that didn't come with the radio, such as programming software and a cable to connect the radio to the computer. (I've had to do that with both Uniden and RS, so they're on equal footing there.) That's _before_ things like carrying cases, and a 12VDC lighter cord that I don't think came with my 396. That makes the closeout price on the older RS ones look pretty good, I guess. And I meant to say last night that you'll have another new hobby that you don't have time for - fiddling with your programming!
