And that's when my hoax detector went off. No one acting in an official capacity would write a letter to the paper and throw in the reference to Christ. I went to Snopes.com.

For the most part, the letter is for real. Sure enough, though, that last sentence has been added after the fact. It does not appear in the original letter. Not only that, but the original letter was written by a Lt. Col Scott Pleus, not a Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel.
