WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C.'s Homeland Security and Emergency
Management Agency says the city will test a new mass notification
system between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday.
It will include four generic voice messages and a tonal test.
Anyone near the National Mall could hear the test, but should not
be alarmed.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Inaugural officials say a rehearsal of
President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony and parade will be
open to the public.
The dry run will start at about 7 a.m. Sunday at the U.S. Capitol
and at 8 a.m. along Pennsylvania Avenue, where the parade will take
place.
Officials say the rehearsal will last for two or three hours.
They say about 5,000 participants, including military bands such as
the U.S. Marine Band, will run through their routines to make sure
everything goes well on Jan. 20.

Amtrak prepares for crowds along Obama train route
WASHINGTON (AP) -- When Barack Obama travels by train to Washington
for the inauguration, throngs of well-wishers are expected to line the
tracks in hopes of seeing the president-elect.
Amtrak said Thursday the 137-mile route from Philadelphia to the
nation's capital will be secured by thousands of officers from about
40 jurisdictions that the train passes through.
Officials say crowds are expected to gather at hundreds of points
along the way -- especially at overpasses, parking lots and commuter
train stations.
Amtrak isn't estimating how many people will line the tracks,
though officials are using the 1968 funeral procession of Robert F.
Kennedy as a guide. By some estimates, more than 1 million people
lined the tracks from New York to Washington to pay their respects to
the senator.
