Andrew,
GPS is good for a lot of things. Directions to an incident, location of
cruiser during a BLACKOUT situation, and for what you mentioned keeps the
dispatcher on their toes to give a faster response to a incident.
GPS is good and bad but this is good. Something that I find is odd.

Is being used to track traffic flow on the roads by the use of GPS from a
cell phones.

For the first time ever, I heard an Arlington PD dispatcher tonight refer to
the GPS location of one of their cruisers. Now that their digital APCO
system is up and running, it seems that the county is starting to use GPS
location technology. I always wondered why they hadn't done this years ago.
If they're on their toes, it would seem that they could automatically assign
units to a specific call based on their proximity to the action.
