We had this problem when trying to use an old GPS with a newer laptop.   
There are converter cables, but make sure you have the option of returning  
what you buy if it doesn't work, we had to try a couple before we found  
one that worked to connect the two devices.

The ones that didn't work didn't hurt either device, they just did nothing.
