Many thanks, John, that should do me - I had an idea that they would do it automatically but have never used the function in the 796, and am still learning how to use the 396 - will check the manual pronto and get things set up.

When I find out what the PL tones are, will send all the info to RadioReference.

Regards,

Doug

>>Hi gang, I have a question regarding CTCSS, or "Private Line". I'll take a look on RadioReference also, but am using all my resources! If a station uses a PL tone when it transmits, but I don't know what tone they are using, is there any way I can find out what the tone is while monitoring that station? (I have a BC-396 and a BC-796.)

>>To give you the details: My parents recently moved to Riderwood Village, a retirement community off Cherry Hill Road at the Montgomery / Prince Georges County Line. Riderwood has 6 UHF frequencies (or 3 pairs): 452.500 / 457.500 MHz, 462.225 / 467.225 MHz, and 462.5 / 467.500 MHz that are used for security, maintenance, shuttle buses and the like. The 452.5 / 457.5 frequency is shared by some other system(s!) and I have been receiving one of those (completely unintelligible, I might add!) in my travels around Montgomery County. (I think it must be Capital Cab, looking in the FCC database.)

>>What I'd like to do is program my radios with the PL tone for Riderwood so that I don't hear the cab company jive, but again, not sure what Riderwood's PL tone is - is there any easy way to find it out?
