I'd also vote for the Austin condor. It's excellent, not too tall (although it's a bit thick) and seems to work quite well on 800 and even seems to do a reasonable job on VHF lo as well (although you can't expect much -
physics can only be pushed so far). 

This topic, duckie antennas (not just for the 396 but others as well) has been covered ad nauseum on the
antennas forum at RadioReference. The consensus seems to be that the Diamond RH77CA is a real winner, and
even the inexpensive RS 800 mhz duckie is a very good choice for 800 coverage (and it seems to be OK for
UHF as well).
