[Scan-DC] Need new scanner

Bob, I have seen and heard John's 996 and would highly recommend it - I have a 796 and am happy enough with it, but they made significant improvements in the audio of the 996.  I would recommend that you also get the BuTel software to program it, and as John says, you can get that in a discounted package from Scannermaster in Mass (www.scannermaster.com).  A friend and I just bought a pair of 396s from Scannermaster and they seemed to have the best deal on them overall.

You may find a little better price on the radio from other vendors, but they don't sell the BuTel software, so I think the bottom line comes out better using Scannermaster, rather than buying the less expensive radio and then downloading the software and paying full price.

One other vendor that I know of charges a little more for shipping also, ie a flat rate instead of the actual charges.

You might also check this place, I think one of the other guys here just purchased from them and I must admit, their prices are great - I wanted the BuTel software though, and they don't have it.  http://www.bearcat1.com/
