[Scan-DC] Gathering -- First Try

The extended forecast looks pretty good for Sunday. Hope some of you can
make it. I will send an email at 10:00 am to cancel if the weather turns
sour, but at this time, it looks like a go.
I am 5' 6", black hair, glasses, carrying at least one radio, usually
appearing clueless. I'll probably be hanging out near the ILS antennas and
runway lights, directly in line with the runway, near the bike path.
The park can be quite crowded when the weather is good.
Andy

OK, folks, let me throw this out: Sunday, November 18th, 2007, 11:00 AM,
Gravelly Point Park, BYOS (Bring Your Own Scanners); and BYOF (Bring Your
Own Food) if you plan to eat. Great place to bring the XYL and harmonics,
too, if the weather is good. 807's are not allowed; we will have to save
those for a future gathering.
Let's postpone the gathering if either the temperature is below 40 deg F at
10:00 AM (i.e., one hour prior) that morning, or precipitation is falling or
imminent at 10:00 AM.
I presume everyone has been to Gravelly Point, but if not, it is along the
right hand side of the northbound GW Parkway, just north of National
Airport. It is a few hundred feet off the north end of DCA's runway 1.
Excellent place to listen to the air band, the DME band, the ILS band, and
the VOR band (earphone or headphones are recommended). Also excellent
scanning of DC and surrounding systems, and great photography of low-flying
incoming or outgoing planes (depending on wind direction). Not a great place
to fly kites or launch model rockets.
You may want to give an indication if you plan to be there, so we know who
to look out for.
Cheers,
Andy

Andy,
I'd be really interested in a gathering. Your location is a good
central place. Mid-to-late November would work for me--were you
thinking on a weekend?
I have to agree about Gravelly Point. Great place for scanning.
Excellent location in the middle of it all, free parking, and stuff to
watch!
