EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS TO CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF SERVICE
FREDERICK, MD - The Department of Emergency Communications, located at
the Law Enforcement Center at 100 Airport Drive-East, Frederick, MD
will hold an open house and recognition ceremony on Saturday, November
10, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to celebrate 40 years of service to
the citizens of Frederick County. A recognition ceremony will be held
at 10:00 a.m. in the conference room of the Law Enforcement Center,
followed by public tours of the Emergency Communications Center.
Emergency communications in Frederick County began in 1967 as
Frederick County Central Alarm. Originally manned by one person
around the clock dispatching just fire and ambulance calls, the
present day communications center has as many as eleven people on
duty. The department handles all 911 calls for Frederick County and
dispatching services for fire, Emergency Medical Services, the Sheriff
's Office and other county agencies.
The department is extending a special invitation to all former
dispatchers and members of the emergency communications center to
attend this event and share their stories of the early Central Alarm
center. The public is invited to attend the event and tour the center
to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the commitment and
dedication of emergency communications specialists.
