My opinion is that HRO is over-priced, and their service and general
friendliness (at least at the store in Woodbridge) is less than optimal.

I bought my 996T at scanners-direct.com. They definitely had the lowest
price, by quite a margin. They are currently advertising the 396T and 996T
for $479.95 (10% less than hamstation.com). Their service and shipping rates
were reasonable.

The 996 and 396 are $530.00 and if he wants a mobile get the remote head for
$200 more

I guess you mean LOCAL as in the DC area.

HRO in Woodbridge, VA sells Uniden over the counter.
