Emergency Exercise at Reagan National Airport on Saturday, September
15
Live Fire Training Taking Place at Reagan National Throughout the Week
of September 10
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will conduct an
emergency exercise at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on
Saturday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to approximately 12 noon. A river
rescue exercise, featuring rescue boats and individuals being pulled
from the Potomac River via helicopter will also be part of the
exercise. This simulated aircraft accident will test the Airport’s
emergency operations plan and provide hands-on training to airport and
mutual aid emergency response personnel. The exercise will not affect
normal airport operations.
PLEASE NOTE: On Saturday morning, there will be numerous emergency
vehicles operating in the area of the George Washington Parkway near
Reagan National Airport, smoke and fire may be visible from the south
area of the Airport, and river rescue boats and helicopters will be
operating on the Potomac River near the south end of the Airport—all
part of the exercise.
Additionally, the Airports Authority Fire and Rescue Department and
mutual aid fire departments will be conducting live fire training on
an aircraft simulator at Reagan National Airport from 8 AM to 10 PM
every day during the week of September 10. Smoke and fire may be
visible during these training drills.
FOR THE MEDIA:
Media wishing to cover the emergency exercise on Saturday must RSVP in
advance by contacting the Office of Public Affairs at 703-417-8370 or
via e-mail at PublicAffairs at mwaa.com. All attendees must bring
government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, on
the day of the event.
Please RSVP by Thursday, September 13.
Plan to arrive at Reagan National Airport no later than 9:30 a.m. on
Saturday, September 15. On airport property, follow the signs to “VIPs
and Observers.” The signs will direct you to the security checkpoint
and the media parking area, which is in walking distance to the
observation area.
