SAFETY IS PRIORITY
(BALTIMORE, MD) – This week the Baltimore Flight Standards
District Office presented the Certificate of Excellence “Gold Award”
to those who work diligently behind the scenes to maintain the
airworthiness of the world renowned MSP medevac helicopters all across
Maryland.
Earlier this month, the Federal Aviation Administration made a
surprise visit for a safety inspection at the Martin State Airport
Hangar, one of eight hangars for the Maryland State Police medevac
helicopter. After passing with flying colors, Inspector Anthony N.
Serio announced his return later that afternoon to recognize several
of the Maryland State Police aviation maintenance technicians for
their excellence in maintaining a level of perfection.
“State Police helicopters would not fly without the incredible
energy and expertise exhibited each day by our dedicated aviation
maintenance technicians,” says Colonel Terrence B. Sheridan,
Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. “Each lifesaving mission
that is flown is made possible by their unrelenting commitment to
excellence, their attention to detail, and the passion for saving
lives and keeping Marylanders safe that they share with our pilots and
flight paramedics.”
Individual awards of all levels were given to seven aviation
maintenance technicians at Martin State Airport for their continued
maintenance needed to ensure daily aviation safety. Historically, the
“Diamond Award” has been presented only three times, two of which went
to the Maryland State Police. Starting from the highest achievement,
awards were presented to: Timothy E. Dash, “Diamond Award”; Russell
C. Lindsay, John C. Black, and Jerry W. Shafer, “Ruby Award”; David
Rosenberger, “Gold Award”; Steven Gumbel and James Logie, “Silver
Award”. Each award level is based on total FAA regulation and policy
training hours.
For the second time, the entire Maryland State Police Aviation
Command received an employer award, the Certificate of Excellence
“Gold Award”, for providing the resources for proper training of
maintenance personnel. This award recognizes those employers who
fully support the Flights Standards mission.
