WBZ's Paul Sullivan Loses His Battle with Melanoma
WBZ talk show host Paul Sullivan died last night after a battle with melanoma. He was 50 years old.
Paul Sullivan was a delightfully irreverent talk show host. He came to WBZ in 1999 after a decade behind the microphone at WLLH in Lowell. He attracted 200,000 listeners a night when he took over the 8-to-midnight slot at WBZ Newsradio 1030 upon the death of David Brudnoy. He also enjoyed a loyal audience as a columnist and political editor at the Lowell Sun.
Paul's last show on WBZ was broadcast on June 28, 2007. After three years of grueling treatment for melanoma (including four brain surgeries), Paul decided it was time to turn his full attention to hi8s health and his family. He said of his fans as he left, "They are such an important part of my life and I don't even know what they look like. I don't know how much more humbled you can be than when you receive hundreds, even thousands of cards over the past three years - and you realize people really do care about you."
WBZ Director of News and Programming, Peter Casey, said, "The Sullivan Family and the WBZ family lost a real treasure. Paul Sullivan brightened up every room he ever entered and every life he ever touched. Right now, our thoughts are with Paul's wife and their five children and Paul's extended family."
