[Scan-DC] Analog Virginia State Police transmission on 700 MHz

Thanks for clearing things up John. The reason for my question is because I
know that the 396/996 Close Call can automatically decode digital. As for
your follow-up question Andy, while I **think** Close Call auto decode is
the default, I can not say it is fact.

764 mhz. is the STARS' mobile repeater frequency range. Usually depending
upon the STARS Division each 764 mhz. frequency will be slightly different.
The three 764 mhz. mobile repeater frequencies I hear at my location on my
996T for Div 1 and Div 5 are digital not
analog. The STARS radios do have the capability to transmit either
analog or digital. STARS techs have begun installation at the
Independent Hill site and installations probably are underway at other Div 2
sites. Sounds like you heard a STARS radio operating in the analog mode on
a 764 mhz. mobile repeater frequency possibly for Div 2.
As one or more Div 2 STARS sites become operational, more comms will
convert to digital. You heard an analog transmission because there
currently are no operational STARS sites in Div 2 or Div 7. The ground wave
range coverage the STARS mobile repeaters have on 764 mhz. is very
impressive.
What was the exact 764 mhz. frequency you heard?
