Well Butel is releasing a new software ACR996 Commando
You can control eight BCD996T or BCT15 scanners from one PC screen (any
combination of these scanners you want).
The first person that does that is insance and should not take it as a hobby
and more of a job. :)
But ya I remember my first scanner it was a Pro-97 50 channels. Now it's a
996 5000 channel. Wow that is huge now.
Reading some forums most of the newer scanners run some form of an OS.
I don't know anymore.

I gotta agree with Al. when I first got my 796, I had no idea... and the
manual is pretty bad... getting the software helped significantly, and then
once I got to playing with it, I understood the whole mess... that's one way
technology has changed... digital trunking scanners are far from "plug and
play", there's a pretty steep learning curve and a fair amount of diddling
around before you can go "on the air", so to speak.
Right now, I'm in Ocean City MD, and I can't seem to receive their EDACS 800
MHz digital trunking system... gotta play with that tomorrow... arrgh! I
want to listen, not fuss around with the radio!!
:)
