Imagine starting from where you lived. Walk up Russell Road to about
Windsor or Custis Avenue. Cut over to Commonwealth and make a left. Walk
north on Commonwealth to Cora Kelly and then go over to Route 1, JD
Highway. I think this was before there was a bicycle path on the south
bank of Four Mile Run, so I would have gone east on Reed Avenue. Go north
on JD Highway and once past Crystal City, take old Route 1, which is
closer to the railroad tracks than the current highway. Once you're near
where the Marriott used to be, head over to the highway bridge. No one
was expecting sightseers that night, so I could get on south end of the
14th Bridge.

It was a long walk, for sure, especially in the snow.
