Hi Scott,
You almost certainly saw two of the Northrup-Grumman Test Aircraft based
at BWI. They often depart and arrive flying in formation. I believe the
larger aircraft carries experimental Radar setups and the smaller one is
used as a radar target. One is a BAC 1-11 and one is a Sabreliner. There's
a nice picture on airliners.net --

The Nose configuration of the larger plane changes often...

Subject: [Scan-DC] Airliner escort

I live near BWI. Walking home just 5 minutes ago, a low flying
airliner with an escort heading southeast. It looked to be a fighter
but I did not have my glasses on. It sure was loud though.
The escort was just off his right wing and slightly higher.
Did anybody hear anything? I dont think the planes wee coming from
BWI as they were going too fast.

 Scott, Near BWI
