still worth it for Fed monitoring/Milair?

Rick, from what I've been observing, neither the PRO96 nor the 2096 can trunktrack in the 380 mhz band. They could listen in conventional mode. If the sigs you were interested in were running a 9600 baud control channel then you could use PRO96Com to examine it, much like you would for Trunker (sans the need for a discriminator tap).
However that's a moot point - although some folks find that the 96 is sensitive enough to do the job on milair, many more have found the radio is deaf as a stone in that band. It's understandable - the radio is simply not designed to work there, and you are taking a chance opening that band up using Win96. It's a crap shoot - you might get a 96 that will work OK there, you might not.
The BCD396 - and presumably the new 996 (LVH?) can trunktrack in the 380 mhz band, so long as the signal is not encrypted. Forget about the PRO-97 or the 2055 - neither of them can do 380 Mhz trunking, either.

G'day,
I have a chance to pick up a Pro 96 or a Pro 2096. I'm interested in
monitoring the 380-400 MHz fed bands, and I occasionally do some Milair.
Are these radios serviceable for these applications, or not workable at all?
Thanks for your help,
Rick
