They may be playing into people's fears but I dont think it is fair to say
that the only legit reason for keeping up with other jurisdictions is
bragging rights. There are tangible mutual aid benifits to being able to
switch over to another juridictions system directly without having to have a
dispatcher set up a patch. In NoVa this is a common practice as everyone
here is probably aware. Patching might be good enough if you have a major
incident but there are times on the police side for example where 1 unit
might just need to switch over to another jurisdiction to advise them of
something. There are also many advantages to a newer system, most likely
digital trunked i.e. better audio quality if the system is built right, more
options, etc. On another note did anyone notice the article said PG had a
200 Mhz radio system lol?
