Ah, the good old days. I was just a young pup in the Navy (1975) when I
attended my first SoCal RCMA get together, a weekend campout meeting in the
mountains north od SD between the San Diego and Los Angeles RCMA chapters.
Me and three others represented San Diego. I was proud to be a member of the
RCMA long before others even figured out it was cool. Many many stories I
could tell ya. ;-)
The RCMA was disestablished several years due to monetary problems, and amid
a bit of a scandal with a small west coast commercial radio hobby magazine.
It was a big mess. Quite a few of the old RCMA hierarchy has now passed
away.
Print publication type radio clubs are pretty much going the way of the ball
and musket thanks to the net. Eyeball meetings and hobby information now
passed via the internet on list such as this. There are a precious few
places left such as CARMA (in Chicago), some small groups in Socal, and the
annual Scan Scum gathering at Winterfest in PA, but as a whole the scanner
hobby has never been good at supporting face to face meeting and large get
togethers.
As for the DC area, I am not aware of any meetings. They have never sent
anything to us for print in MT.
