Doug, the deadline for the 2005 Inauguration issue of the newsletter was yesterday, so I assume sometime today the newsletter went into the mails. I'm hoping that a PDF version of the newsletter will also be available on the CHM website (Al?).
This issue should be a complete overhaul of the 2001 Inauguration issue with frequencies and so forth. In addition, there was some info on the news organizations' chopper freqs in the last issue, as well as an article on the Secret Service (which you can expect to be heavily encrypted). I would also keep the Dept of Homeland Security freqs list that appeared in a recent MT handy; there was also a little bit in that same vein about a 400 mhz WHCA portable trunk system. See p.66 of the Sept 2004 issue.
The question about what can we listen to must be tempered a little bit; the push for narrowband/P25 and rebanding is out there (paper tiger or not), and we must all keep in mind that the world changed on 9/11. So like it or not, we may all have to deal with encryption, digital or both more than we did 4 years ago.
It will be interesting to see what we CAN hear, just as much as what we CAN'T

Speaking of which, does anyone have any thoughts / ideas on what
organizations/frequencies/whatever might make the best listening on Inaug
Day? I'm sure there'll be lots to choose from...
(What was the thread we had awhile back about how many radios were
"enough"?) :)
MPDC, obviously, but are they encrypted? I don't normally listen to DC govt
stuff...
DC fire, I suppose, but I've heard that they cut off their repeater links
for sensitive stuff...
Maybe the news orgs _will_ be the best - I would guess that a lot of other
stuff will be encrypted - what d'y'all think?
